Overview
This leadership role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered perioperative care through oversight of daily operations, staffing, and clinical performance within Surgical Services/Operating Room. The manager monitors and evaluates nursing care delivery, supports regulatory readiness, and holds staff accountable for quality, safety, and outcomes. This position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate care across the life span and to apply growth and development principles in clinical oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily Operating Room operations, including OR schedule coordination, staffing, productivity, and monitoring premium labor utilization.
- Maintain surgical schedule flow by ensuring appropriate use of staff, equipment, and supplies.
- Create and manage monthly staffing schedules to maintain adequate coverage and skill mix.
- Serve as a steward of resources by improving supply management and leading process improvement initiatives.
- Analyze and report statistical and operational data for the perioperative service line.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and ensure adherence to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain risk management best practices for the OR and Surgical Services.
- Support patient safety by ensuring compliance with AORN guidelines, sterile technique, traffic flow standards, and accurate surgical counts; assist with room setup and procedures as needed.
- Act as a surgical liaison for family support and information coordination.
- Foster an environment that drives strong satisfaction outcomes for employees, patients, and physicians.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or RN Diploma (BSN preferred).
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice and/or active compact license in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS/BLS) required within 30 days of start date.
- Minimum 3 years of recent hospital-based surgery experience (general surgery required).
- Minimum 3 years of recent perioperative leadership experience (e.g., Charge RN, OR Supervisor/Manager).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong robotics and orthopedics experience.
