Senior Accountant (Temporary Through Mid-October 2026)

A faith-based, not-for-profit organization serving North Carolina seniors since 1951 is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a temporary assignment through mid-October 2026. The organization operates four senior living properties throughout North Carolina and is committed to providing exceptional care and services to seniors.

Reporting directly to the Controller, this role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will support advanced accounting functions including cash accounting, accounts payable, payroll, resident invoicing, and month-end/year-end close activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, performing reconciliations, supporting financial reporting, and improving accounting systems, controls, and workflows.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and GAAP
  • Demonstrated experience with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with:
    • Fixed asset accounting
    • Expense reporting
    • Accounting principles
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare, senior living, or long-term care environments
  • Experience with payroll processing systems (ADP preferred)
  • Experience with fixed asset accounting and depreciation
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory reporting
  • Non-profit accounting experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and explain financial data
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize competing responsibilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced Excel skills including complex formulas and financial analysis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong professional judgment and discretion with confidential information
