Job Summary
The Manager, Surgical Services is a Registered Nurse who assumes 24-hour responsibility in supervising, coordinating and directing the activities of the Operating Room/CSR in the performance of consistently high quality patient care. He/she will provide exceptional care for the patient in the peri-operative environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are the core of practice. The Manager is accountable for the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient care for the peri-operative patient, undergoing anesthesia, surgery and/or procedures. His/her role includes clinical practice, human resources management to included staffing and evaluations in conjunction with financial management. 

Department Overview:
  • 4 Operating Rooms
  • Approximately 15 direct reports, including clinical and support staff
  • Reports to the Director of Surgical Services

Job Responsibilities:
The Manager, Surgical Services must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's/area's/department's policies and procedures.
  • Manages the daily operations of the Operating Room including the O.R. schedule, staffing, manages productivity and monitors use of premium labor 
  • Maintains the flow of the surgical schedule using staff, equipment and supplies appropriately 
  • Maintains oversight of the monthly staff schedule to maintain adequate staffing levels 
  • Acts as an effective steward of resources, monitoring and improving supply management and process improvement initiatives 
  • Analyze and report statistical data for the peri-operative service line 
  • Active member of performance improvement activities and ensures adherence to regulatory requirements. 
  • Meets and maintains risk management best practices for OR and Surgical Services 

Experience & Education:  
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent OR/ SS experience  within acute care care - Required
  • Charge nurse, supervisory expertise in surgical services - Preferred 
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing - Required. 
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Master’s - Preferred
  • Registered Nurse with current Virginia RN license - Required
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association or CPR through American Red Cross – Required
  • Does not need Management experience, will take solid Charge RN, Supervisor, or something similar with direct reports. 

Compensation:
$100,000–$150,000 annually, based on years of experience
