Position Summary
Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients on a cardiac telemetry and medical-surgical unit. The RN is responsible for comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation, evaluation, patient/family education, and coordination of care in a fast-paced acute care setting. This role includes continuous cardiac monitoring, recognition of rhythm changes, and prompt escalation of clinical concerns.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care for telemetry and med-surg patients, including post-operative, cardiac, and complex medical conditions.
- Interpret telemetry rhythms; identify and respond to dysrhythmias and changes in patient status.
- Administer medications and IV therapies; manage central/peripheral lines; perform wound care and other unit-based procedures per competency.
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams; coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, follow-up care, and risk-factor modification.
- Participate in quality/safety initiatives, infection prevention practices, and emergency response (e.g., rapid response/code).
Required Qualifications
- Active Florida RN license (or eligible for Florida licensure) in good standing.
- Must have 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) Acute Care RN experience.
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
- ACLS (AHA) required or willingness to obtain within a facility-defined timeframe.
- Strong telemetry competency, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
- Must live within 60 minutes of the facility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Telemetry and/or med-surg experience in a high-acuity hospital setting.
- NIH Stroke Scale certification and/or experience caring for stroke/cardiac patients.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Prolonged standing/walking; frequent lifting, turning, and repositioning patients; ability to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
- Frequent use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols in an acute care environment.
