Position Summary

The Operating Room Registered Nurse (Circulator) delivers safe, evidence-based nursing care throughout the perioperative experience in accordance with AORN, ASPAN, SGNA, State Practice Act standards, and organizational policies. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while promoting patient safety, comfort, and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care throughout the perioperative continuum using the nursing process.
  • Serve as the circulating nurse during outpatient surgical procedures.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary clinical team.
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies for daily surgical and procedural cases.
  • Perform pre-operative patient assessments, start IVs, and assist with patient preparation.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures to ensure safe recovery and positive outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge instructions.
  • Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention practices, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development.
  • Cross-train across perioperative service lines as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Vermont or eligibility for licensure.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of current Operating Room nursing experience.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • ACLS certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Preferred

  • Previous Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience.
  • Endoscopy or outpatient surgery experience.
  • Experience working as a Circulating RN.
