Schedule: 36 hours/week total — 3 eight-hour shifts and 1 twelve-hour shift per week. Shifts range between 11:00 PM–7:00 AM (8 hrs), 3:00 PM–11:00 PM (8 hrs), and 7:00 PM–7:00 AM (12 hrs).
Role Summary
This interim RN House Supervisor provides clinical and operational oversight for inpatient acute care operations during assigned shifts. The role ensures safe staffing, timely patient flow, adherence to regulatory requirements, and effective coordination across nursing units and ancillary departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise nursing operations hospital-wide; serve as the escalation point for clinical and operational concerns.
- Coordinate staffing and assignments; respond to call-offs and acuity changes; initiate staffing plans and reallocation as needed.
- Support patient throughput, admissions, transfers, and discharges; collaborate with bed management and interdisciplinary teams.
- Provide clinical guidance for high-risk situations, rapid responses, and emergencies; ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up.
- Round on units to assess patient safety, quality of care, and staff support needs.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention, medication safety, patient identification, and fall prevention standards.
- Address patient/family concerns and service recovery issues; escalate when appropriate.
- Complete shift reports, incident reporting, and handoff communication to leadership and incoming supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted RN license in New York State (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience; prior charge nurse, supervisor, or house supervisor experience strongly preferred.
- BLS certification required; ACLS required (or obtained within facility-defined timeframe).
- Strong knowledge of patient flow, staffing/acuity management, and clinical escalation processes.
- Ability to lead during nights/evenings, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard hospital documentation practices.
- Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including walking/standing for extended periods and assisting in patient care as needed.
Preferred
- BSN preferred.
- Prior experience in union and/or multi-unit hospital environments.
- Training in de-escalation, crisis management, or emergency preparedness.
