Inpatient Pharmacy Manager

Salary: USD $149,700 - $224,500 Annually
Role Summary
Lead and oversee inpatient pharmacy operations within an acute care setting, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant medication-use processes. This role partners with clinical, nursing, and medical leadership to optimize pharmacotherapy services, advance quality outcomes, and manage department performance, staffing, and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct inpatient pharmacy services, including sterile compounding, medication distribution, clinical pharmacy support, and formulary management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards (e.g., state Board of Pharmacy, DEA, Joint Commission, USP <797>/<800>/<795>, CMS as applicable).
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs to improve medication safety and patient outcomes.
- Lead and coach pharmacists and technicians; oversee scheduling, hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and competency validation.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary committees (e.g., P&T, Medication Safety) and support evidence-based formulary decisions.
- Oversee controlled substance management, diversion prevention, and audit readiness.
- Manage departmental budget, purchasing, inventory controls, and cost-containment initiatives, including 340B coordination where applicable.
- Support pharmacy informatics and automation (EHR/CPOE/BCMA, ADCs), order set optimization, and workflow improvement.
- Monitor key performance indicators and report outcomes; drive continuous improvement and readiness for surveys/accreditation.
Required Qualifications
- PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy (or equivalent).
- Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Colorado (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive inpatient/acute care pharmacy experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterile compounding, hazardous drug handling, and medication safety best practices.
- Experience with EHR systems and pharmacy automation; strong data analysis and process improvement skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to meet facility background, credentialing, and immunization requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of PGY1 (and PGY2 preferred) residency training.
- Board certification (e.g., BCPS) and/or leadership certification.
- Experience supporting clinical pharmacy services, antimicrobial stewardship, transitions of care, or critical care programs.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a hospital inpatient pharmacy with potential exposure to hazardous medications; adherence to PPE and safety protocols is required. May require on-call coverage and participation in emergency preparedness activities.
