Pay: USD $29.92 (min) – $39.21 (mid; 10 years’ experience) – $44.88 (max; 17 years’ experience) per hour
Position Summary
The Free Standing Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides rapid assessment, stabilization, and ongoing nursing care to emergency patients across the lifespan. This role requires strong triage skills, critical thinking, and the ability to respond effectively to high-acuity and time-sensitive conditions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform emergency triage, focused assessments, and continuous reassessments; prioritize care using acuity-based protocols.
- Initiate and manage emergency interventions (e.g., IV/IO access, medication administration, wound care, splinting, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring).
- Recognize and respond to clinical deterioration, code situations, and trauma/emergency presentations.
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams; coordinate diagnostics, treatments, and disposition/transfer as needed.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record; ensure compliance with EMTALA and safety standards.
- Provide patient/family education, discharge instructions, and support with a focus on service excellence.
- Participate in quality improvement, infection prevention, and departmental readiness (equipment checks, supply management).
Required Qualifications
- Current Florida (or compact) RN license in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
- Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Department and/or acute care RN experience preferred; new graduates may be considered with relevant clinical training.
- Current BLS (AHA) required.
- Current ACLS (AHA) required (or obtain within designated timeframe).
- PALS (AHA) required (or obtain within designated timeframe).
- TNCC and/or ENPC preferred (or obtain within designated timeframe).
- Strong skills in assessment, prioritization, IV therapy, medication administration, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to work days or nights, weekends, holidays, and variable schedules as needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced emergency setting with exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and behavioral health emergencies.
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, lift/move patients and equipment, and respond quickly during emergencies.
- Must pass required background check, drug screening, and pre-employment health screening per policy.
