Position Summary
The Director of Revenue Cycle provides strategic and operational leadership for all revenue cycle functions in an acute care environment, ensuring accurate billing, timely reimbursement, regulatory compliance, and an excellent patient financial experience. This role partners with clinical, financial, and operational leaders to optimize performance across the revenue lifecycle and drive sustainable improvement in cash flow and key metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end revenue cycle operations including registration, insurance verification, authorization, charge capture, coding coordination, billing, claims management, denials, collections, and patient financial services.
- Develop and monitor performance dashboards (e.g., A/R days, DNFB, denial rates, cash collections, clean claim rate) and implement action plans to achieve targets.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, payer requirements, and internal policies; support audits and corrective action plans.
- Drive process improvement initiatives, standardize workflows, and strengthen internal controls to reduce revenue leakage.
- Oversee revenue cycle technology utilization and optimization, including billing and clearance tools; coordinate upgrades, testing, and training.
- Lead meetings, manage staff expectations, and convey operational performance and recommendations in a meaningful way to leadership.
- Build and mentor a high-performing team through coaching, performance management, and ongoing development.
- Collaborate with payer relations, case management, and clinical departments to resolve barriers to timely, accurate reimbursement.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or other related field.
- 5 years’ experience in Revenue Cycle.
- 5–7 years’ demonstrated management and supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of billing software programs, including but not limited to: Meditech, Paragon, Relay Clearance, and Relay Assurance (preferred).
- 15+ years of experience combined with a Bachelor’s Degree may also be considered.
- Possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem solve, effectively plan and organize work, with solid oral and written communication skills.
- Stamina to work in a fast-paced, challenging, and complex environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading revenue cycle performance improvement within an acute care setting.
- Demonstrated success reducing denials, improving cash collections, and strengthening patient financial engagement.
