Position Summary

The Director of Imaging provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a multi-modality imaging department within an acute care environment. This role develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization. The department supports a high-volume service line, completing approximately 700 general radiology studies per month, 90 MRIs per month, 250 ultrasounds per month, 375 CTs per month, and 80 nuclear medicine scans per month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and evaluate departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management to meet performance and quality control objectives.
  • Plan and monitor staffing activities, including hiring, onboarding/orienting, scheduling, performance evaluations, corrective/disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Prepare, monitor, and evaluate departmental budgets; ensure operations remain compliant with allocated funding and productivity targets.
  • Coordinate and direct internal and external audits; ensure readiness for regulatory, accreditation, and quality reviews.
  • Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and standards for safety, patient experience, infection prevention, radiation safety, and contrast administration practices as applicable.
  • Create and foster an environment that encourages professional growth and keeps the department focused on its role in the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, nursing, administration, and other departments to optimize workflow, access, and service quality.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences, Imaging, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • Current New Mexico state license in imaging.
  • ARRT registry required.
  • BLS required upon hire; must obtain American Heart Association BLS certification within 90 days of hire if not already current (and maintain all required certifications).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a hospital imaging department with strong operational, quality, and staff development focus.
  • Working knowledge of imaging regulations, compliance, quality assurance, and departmental budgeting.
