Position Overview

A Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) in Columbia, MO is seeking a results-driven Director of Business Development (DBD) to lead market growth, develop referral relationships, and drive admissions.

This is a player-coach leadership role for an experienced healthcare sales professional who can both develop their own referral territory and mentor a team of approximately 3–4 Clinical Liaisons supporting the Columbia market.

The DBD will build strong relationships with hospital case managers, physicians, discharge planners, and other clinical and administrative stakeholders while developing strategies to grow referrals and admissions. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys healthcare sales, relationship building, territory development, and team leadership.

Candidates must currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Columbia, MO area.

Key Responsibilities

Market & Business Development

  • Own and grow the Columbia, MO referral territory.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with physicians, case managers, discharge planners, and hospital leadership.

  • Serve as a primary resource and educator for referral partners regarding appropriate LTACH placement.

  • Review and pre-screen referred patients for appropriateness of care and coordinate information needed for potential admission.

  • Conduct facility tours and represent the hospital within the referral community.

  • Identify new referral opportunities and develop strategies to increase admissions and market growth.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute a market-specific business development plan.

  • Manage account planning and territory activity with a disciplined, metrics-driven approach.

  • Mentor, coach, and support approximately 3–4 Clinical Liaisons working within the Columbia market.

  • Assist with onboarding and professional development of team members.

  • Help the team achieve referral and admission goals.

  • Partner with hospital leadership on physician relations, marketing initiatives, physician recruitment/retention, and new program development.

  • Maintain current presentations, proposals, and other materials used throughout the sales process.

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of outside healthcare-related sales experience, preferably within a referral-driven post-acute or healthcare environment.

  • Previous experience mentoring, coaching, or informally leading sales professionals or team members.

  • Must live in or be willing to relocate to Columbia, MO.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a territory and sales process using measurable goals and activity metrics.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both clinical and administrative professionals.

  • Ability to understand and interpret clinical information sufficiently to assist with determining patient appropriateness for admission.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and standard web-based applications.

  • Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and adequate auto insurance.

  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the local referral market.

Preferred

  • Professional healthcare license such as RN, LPN, RT, PT, OT, or similar.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare, Marketing, or a related field.
