About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Director of Free-Standing Emergency Services to provide leadership and operational oversight for a growing network of free-standing emergency departments in the Charleston/Summerville market.
This is a unique leadership opportunity supporting two hospital executive teams while helping oversee the continued growth and development of a rapidly expanding FSED network. The market currently has four FSEDs, with additional locations under development and a long-term plan for a total of seven locations.
The Director will report to the ACNO and work closely with emergency services leadership to ensure high-quality patient care, strong employee engagement, operational excellence, and continued growth.
What You’ll Do
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for free-standing emergency services.
- Ensure consistent, high-quality emergency care and compliance with established standards.
- Lead and develop managers and frontline staff.
- Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Monitor patient experience, employee engagement, quality, and performance.
- Oversee emergency services processes, policies, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead performance improvement initiatives and quality programs.
- Participate in hospital and departmental committees.
- Build strong relationships across clinical and administrative teams.
- Identify and develop future leaders through coaching and mentoring.
- Oversee resource allocation, staffing, and operational performance.
- Provide oversight and coordination with ancillary services including Imaging, Lab, Admitting, Security, Environmental Services, and Support Services.
- Support the continued expansion of the FSED network.
About the FSED Network
- Four current free-standing emergency departments
- Additional locations under construction and development
- Long-term growth to a total of seven FSEDs
- Daily patient volumes ranging approximately from 53 to 65 patients
- Three managers supporting the FSED operations
- Nurses perform point-of-care laboratory testing at the facilities

What You’ll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
- Master's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
- 3+ years of emergency services experience required
- 3+ years of leadership experience required
- Current RN license required
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- PALS or ENPC required
- Strong operational, leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
Ideal Background
The ideal candidate will have Director-level emergency department leadership experience, with free-standing emergency department experience preferred.
Strong ED Nurse Managers may also be considered, particularly those with significant leadership experience, strong career tenure, and experience managing a large acute-care emergency department.
