Job Summary

The Business Development Specialist/Clinical Liaison is responsible for generating appropriate referrals for our Long-Term Acute Care hospital, completing the clinical evaluations, and coordinating the admissions/approval process. This role is responsible for all activities that drive patient referrals, support awareness/education, and utilization of the hospital’s services to customer groups and other community members. This position involves one-on-one interactions with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to understand and assess patient needs and how that patient may fit within our services to meet assigned admissions & referral goals.

Required Education
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
Or
• Active Clinical license (such as RN, LPN, RT, etc. preferred)
Or
• 5+ years of related experience in lieu of license or degree
Required Experience
• 1 year of business development experience in a healthcare environment
Or
• 1 year in a clinical capacity

Required Licensure / Certifications
• If a clinical role, a valid & active license such as RN, LPN or RT at time of hire
• Drivers’ License
• Valid automobile insurance

Essential Functions
• Generate profitable admissions and create a backlog/pipeline of potential patients by developing and maintaining relationships with referring physicians, hospitals, and clinics.
• Conducts accurate patient assessments on a timely basis (if clinically qualified)
• Manages referral process (from identification through assessment and approval)
• Applies knowledge of insurance programs, hospital programs, regulations, and criteria for admissions
• Collaborates with case management, social work, and business office personnel (both internally and externally)
• Understands the financial impact of each patient; selects the patient sets that are within the hospital's capabilities and drives appropriate revenue
• Completes case documentation, expenses, and reports on a timely and regular basis
• Assists in developing and implementing referral and education strategies for patients and referral sources.
• Proactively collects patient success stories that can be shared via website or social media
• Submits monthly status of assessments, admissions & referrals, results of relationship building with referral sources, presentations, and other activities in the assigned territory
